Unbiased Technology Advising: The Transform Labs Approach to Ethical Guidance

Ryan Frederick | January 20th, 2025 | Dublin, OH

Advice can be tricky.

Is the advice being given by a trusted, credible source? Is the advice relevant to your situation? Is the advice self-serving for the source? Is the advice biased?

These are just some of the questions organization leaders must ask themselves when receiving advice. Many professional advisors should be bound by an ethical and fiduciary duty to provide clients with advice that is in the client's best interest, but we all know that doesn't always happen.

One of the things we take pride in at Transform Labs is our unbiased approach to technology advising. We don't actively resell software products and platforms, even though we can, because we believe that when you do so, it can't help but make some of your advice to clients biased. The best way to provide unbiased advice to clients is not to be incentivized to do otherwise. We remove the incentive.

This doesn't mean we don't recommend products, systems, and platforms to our clients; we do, but we don't resell them. We have the clients go direct. We don't make any commission, profit, or kickbacks. Going direct also means clients maintain complete ownership of the accounts and data. We have seen far too many instances in which organizations are held captive because they didn't own their products and data unequivocally. Biased advice doesn't necessarily mean it is wrong, but at the minimum, it is tainted and suspect. We never want the specter of advice we give to clients to be self-serving in any way.

Our technology advice by our on-demand, executive-level advisors ensures that clients get the best advice for their situation. Advising clients is an individualized experience. No two clients receive the exact same advice from us, nor should they. Every client's circumstance and objectives are uniquely theirs, and it takes unique advising, planning, and execution suited just for them. The only way to be a respectable and credible advisor, which we have been for 30 years, is to provide independent, personalized, and unbiased advice to our clients.
